We all know that article marketing is indeed an excellent source of traffic. A well optimized article submitted to top article directories not only attracts the eyeballs of visitors that follow those article directories but also has the potential to rank well in Google search result pages. And that would mean even more traffic for you. In fact you will experience a dramatic increase in traffic in that case.

But to achieve such results you have to learn a few trick of the trade. Not every article submitted by the users has the same outcome. But before you even put pen on paper you have to ask yourself what your primary objective is? Do you submit articles to article directories for traffic, or you simply want to acquire some back links? Or do you want your article to rank for one or more keywords?

I submit articles to article directories for back links. If somebody follows a link from that article to my main web site or blog I consider it as a bonus.  It depends on your niche.  From my experience I know that my products require pre-selling. Sometimes I need more than one pages of content to convert a prospect to a buyer. So, my main objective is to get as many back links from as many article directories I can submit my articles to. So I leverage article marketing to get traffic indirectly.

But if you want to get traffic from that article itself you have to write a very keyword targeted article and have to promote it like any other web page or blog post you have. In that case you would obviously want to rank for that article in the search engines aka Google (Sorry Yahoo, Bing … hope you don’t mind). Hopefully you have done your keyword research so that your article doesn’t have to compete with a few hundred thousands of web pages.

Bookmark your article, submit more articles with links pointing to it, create Web 2.0 sites and link back to your article. In case of Ezinearticles submit your Author RSS Feed to the RSS Directories. In a nutshell do whatever you can to bring it to the first page of Google. The benefit is twofold – you get traffic from organic searches and as more and more readers read the articles the possibility of article to be displayed on the front page of Ezinearticles is bright.
