elizaJoss Whedon’s sci-fi series Dollhouse gets its second season premier tonight on Fox, and star Eliza Dushku is using the Twitter #FollowFriday trend to promote the show.

If she reaches 100,000 followers by the time the show airs, she promises to tweet during the entire show and answer questions for the following hour as well.

With less than two hours to go before the 9pm Eastern/8pm Central airing, there’s still a ways to go with at current count 92,193 followers. Regardless, it marks yet another milestone in the growing trend of entertainment stars reaching out directly to fans on Twitter. And Fox itself is no stranger to Twitter experiments, with the Tweet-peat concept kicking off to mixed reviews.

It’s also a reminder of the growing social TV trend, wherein viewers are simultaneously watching the show and using social media to interact with friends and other watchers. Considering a recent study found almost 3 out of 5 TV viewers use the web at the same time, we can only see this trend increasing as online video outlets provide more tools for users to co-watch.

What do you think of the new social TV trend? Do you enjoy watching shows while getting feedback from other viewers online?
