Using Facebook for B2B and Industrial Internet Marketing

Posted on January 4th, 2010 in Social Media Marketing | No Comments »

Social marketing requires diligence. For an effective push, you should aim to modify your profiles almost daily. A profile could include a Facebook profile, LinkedIn profile and even a Twitter account.  The popular social networks are made for people who regularly visit and update their profiles, or add information to the network such as questions, discussion points or links. User generated content from social networks can be a strong driving force for traffic. Updating profiles often could seem daunting, especially if you’re in the industrial and B2B sector and not accustomed to social marketing. For an easy yet effective start, choose one popular social network to focus on. This is a great way to start your social marketing campaign.

I recommend Facebook as a social network to start with for new online industrial marketing campaigns. The service is usable and mixes a healthy combination of commercial advertising, brands with personal accounts. Facebook, has recently modified its settings to its Fan Pages, which are the profiles which businesses can create. They are places for more commercial groups, companies and brands to set up a profile. You can create a profile for your brand and your employees, customers and friends can become fans of your brand. The fan pages are much like the typical Facebook profile page. One can add a photo, information, and post links videos and events. The great new development of a Facebook fan page is the ability to appear in your fans’ news feed when you update your fan page content. Before, a fan page’s only method of reaching a mass audience was to send a private, official message to fans. Now, with the news feed appearance ability, your fan page actions will show in your fans newsfeed, which will help draw attention to your actions without the need to directly message your fans. You can be inobtrusive, yet still maintain a presence through Facebook, via the newsfeed.

Facebook fan pages are a great way to jump in on b2b and industrial social marketing. If you’re not sure what content to post on your page, or if you have enough ammunition to create a worthwhile profile, consider these ideas: when you have a new product, an event or any announcement you can use your Facebook fan page to send an alert to all your fans; you can post interesting industry links to add value to the marketplace Beyond the normal features that come with a fan page, there are a variety of applications you can add to the fan page to make it more fun and more search-engine friendly.

Facebook pages are now being given SEO-friendly URL’s which means the page addresses are more easily indexed by Google. As for the possible backlinks from a Facebook fan page, if you place a link to your main site from your Facebook fan page, that link is “nofollow”. That link will not be recorded by the search engines. However, if you add the RSS feed application to your page and start pulling in posts from your blog and press releases, those links will provide a kickback, or an additional link to your page.  The keywords from the RSS feed will start enhancing your fan page’s searchability and subsequently give you more exposure. Other great Facebook applications include quizzes, Flickr photostreams, video applications and more. Have fun and add value to your page, and your visitors will follow.

If your company has a young workforce, you likely have social media experts right on staff. Getting everyone in your company involved on your Facebook fan page will help delegate some of your social marketing time. Encourage your employees to become fans and encourage them to post photos from company socials, seminars and other work related and more casual links. Social networks are meant to be fun yet informative. Have fun with your venture into social marketing!

Building Links to your Website for Page Rank

Posted on January 4th, 2010 in Google | No Comments »

The amount of quality links pointing to your website determines the popularity of your websites with many of the search engines, so it is very important to obtain quality links. However, you need to know where your website stands in the search engine rankings in order to see how much work you need to do to increase and maintain that popularity rating.

Another way to build links is through free content creation or free article submissions. When creating your website you will need to fill your site with fantastic content and make updates so other sites want to link to your site. Search engines are now smart enough to know that content is related, so, links from relevant sites are more important then links from sites which are irrelevant.

The assumption still is that if a site has valuable content or services to offer that other webmasters will link to that particular site. Most importantly, work on your content for natural linking from other websites. It is hard to get one way links but if you have good content that goes far beyond other sites people will want to link to you, it is still harder to get one way links than it is to get reciprocal links.

Since page rankings is very important to the major search engines, and links influence this, it is important to create a game plan on how to build links to your site. A well laid out plan will help in establishing the overall link plan and strategy to drive traffic to your site. As time goes on your site will grow and your page rank will get better and you will have better chances securing quality links. As you website continues to grow and build in popularity you will need to quality links from other sites pointing to your site to keep your rankings. Link building never stops, if you stop link building and other sites stop linking to you, you could possibly lose your ranking on the search engines.

The amount and quality of links you need will depend on the competitiveness of the keyword phrases for which you are optimizing. If you put in the time and work on your link building efforts over time you will see results in the long run.

Article directories work with many different partners and by writing articles your articles can show up on many different sites. Your best bet in these times is to write articles and submit it to article directories. By using article submission services and directory submission services you are able to increase your ranking to your website, by submitting you are creating one way links back to your site.

Using automated tools are not link farms, the reason for this is because you decide who you want to trade links with each and every week. Continue building quality links and you will see that in time it will all pay off.

Getting the one-way link is more difficult to obtain than reciprocal links, but the pay off will come if you get solid long-term links and you will see the search engine ranking results increase.

What is Google Page Rank

Posted on January 3rd, 2010 in Google | No Comments »

We often hear of Google Page Rank and this topic is imminent in most Internet Marketing forums. We know higher Page Rank means that the website or blog is of some quality but what is Page Rank? and How is it determined?

Page Rank(PR) is a tool that Google uses to determine a sites quality and effectiveness. It is determined by the number of quality backlinks a site has. What is determined as a quality backlink?

Link building is the most trickiest part of SEO. Most website and blog owners go about link building by the reciprocal link method. It simply means both sites links to one another, so a fair and win-win situation for both parties. Each of these links carries a different weight which is determined by their Page Rank.

If your site is of PR 3 and you link to a site of PR 5 and this site links back to you, then the weight of the link from the PR 5 site to your site is higher than the weight of the link from your site. This is because the link which is pointing to your site is from a PR 5 site which Google have already determine to be a quality and important site to them. The weight of that link can be higher if the PR 5 site that linked to your site is of the same content as your site. Google rates link of the same content to be more higher and important than from a link of a different content.

The limitation to reciprocal linking method is that when a site has too many links that points to other sites. This effects the weight of the link. When you link to a site of this type, even when the PR are the same and your site has only two links pointing out from your site, then the weight of the link you receive is lower.

The best is still a one way link and this carries much more weight than reciprocal links. If you inject real quality content and very useful resources to your site, then eventually your site will achieve this.

Making Money Online Using Facebook Ads

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in Social Media Marketing | No Comments »

So you wanna make money online? I don’t blame you, but how are you going to do it? Adwords? Maybe, but it’s getting harder to turn a profit. Yahoo Search Marketing? Sure, but they’ve been around for a long time and many of the niches are very saturated.

There is a brand new way of advertising your products and offers online called Facebook Ads. The program is brand new and has never been touched by marketers up until a couple of months ago. The program boasts paying the lowest CPC (cost per click) on the internet. With this said, my team investigated to see what type of results we received from promoting the same offers that we promote on Google and Yahoo. The results were amazing. It’s actually very possible to make money online using Facebook Ads.

Facebook did have a program called “Facebook Fliers” that was successful, but not well liked by internet marketers and promoters. The reason being was you had to pay per thousand impressions and not per click. Marketers decided that they would rather pay per qualified click rather than showing impressions to every bob, joe, and jane on the Facebook network.

Now, here comes Facebook Ads, where you pay per click. On top of paying per click, you are able to target your audience of viewers however you want to. You can target them based on age, gender, geographic area, school, hobby, anything! This option is great, because do you really want to be promoting a sports offer to a 16 year old female? Probably not. Facebook Ads has really changed how internet marketers are able to promote their offers and keep profit margins high.

Nobody knows what the future will bring for networks like Adwords, Yahoo PPC, and MSN Adcenter. The saturation of marketers, niches, and offers has become very high and the days of making thousands of dollars a day paying nearly nothing for your clicks are long gone. The internet is constantly changing and it seems that Facebook is doing their best to keep up with everything that is happening on the internet in relation to trends, marketers wants, and their users wants.

The main reason why Facebook is so successful is because of the popularity of their network. Close to 100 million high school students, college students, and other people are registered and log in every single day of the week. Facebook has become much of an addiction and a necessity across high schools and college campuses. By experts predictions, Facebook will continue to grow for decades to come. Their network includes every feature a teenager or college student could ever want to stay in contact with their friends. The evolution of Facebook Applications proved to be very successful by allowing developers to create their own applications and place them on Facebook.

If you can’t tell by my excitement towards Facebook, it’s really an amazing place to be right now if you are a marketer. The opportunities are abundant, all you need is a bit or originality to turn large profits.

Google Page Rank – Why Does it Matter Anyways?

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in Google | No Comments »

The popularity of Google can be gauged from the fact that the Oxford dictionary included it in its directory as a term that refers to the search mechanism. Since its inception, Google has changed the way people search for information online. Though a late entrant in the field, it has become the most popular search engine on the World Wide Web. This was primarily because of its superior performance, ease of use and high quality of results. In fact, with time Google has grown more than just a search engines. It enjoys unparalleled authority on the internet and its results determine the success or failure of a website in the cyberspace.

Google Page Rank
One of the factors that Google uses to rank web documents is the Page Rank. Google PageRank if a numerical figure on the scale of 0 to 10, 0 being the least and 10 being the highest figure that denotes the quality of the website.

What Determines the Page Rank?

Keyword Density
One of the prime methods that determine the ranking of websites on search engine results is its relevance for the searched query. The frequency of occurrence of the search phrase on the website is what decides where it will be placed in the search engine results page. The occurrence of the search phrase is measured with respect to the length of the web document. This is known as keyword density. The more the keyword density, more will be the relevancy of the website.

However, it should be noted that blatant keyword stuffing would not work. Google knows how to identify these malpractices and penalizes websites for the same. The idea is to disperse keywords strategically along the web document so that the content makes sense at the same time is rich in targeted keywords.

Link Popularity
Another factor to gauge website popularity is to actually determine how popular the website is on the Internet. This can be seen by counting the number of web pages linking to the concerned website. The numbers of links that point to your website tell about how many of them think that your website is worth. The number of inbound links determines the importance of a website and is called its link popularity.

Inbound links is not only measured by the quantity of links to your website but also with the quality of links. If your website has 100 links from malicious or low PageRank websites, it would not be better than having 10 links from high PageRank established websites. Link popularity is another important factor that determines the PageRank of a website.

Content Quality
The quality of content that is uploaded on the website plays yet another important role in determining the PageRank of the website. In fact, this is a preceding factor for link popularity itself. If the content on your website is fresh, original and informative then more and more visitors will visit and websites would want to link to you. This increases your link popularity and soars your ranking on Google.

However, make sure that the content you update is original. Google penalizes website for plagiarized content.

Internet Marketing and Invisible List Building

Posted on January 1st, 2010 in List Building | No Comments »

Copyright (c) 2008 Titus Hoskins

When I first started online marketing I kept hearing the so-called gurus shouting “The Money Is In Your List!” Up until that time the only list that meant anything to me was probably my grocery list. However, as I quickly became familiar with web marketing, list building became one of my key goals.

Mainly because list building is one of the vital elements to your Internet marketing success. It can play an important role in increasing your sales, getting repeat targeted traffic to your sites and a perfect vehicle for branding your product or company. Moreover, your list can be a primary source of business relationships which will help you build your online business since these contacts can be the cornerstones of your online marketing.

While I have fulfilled my main ambition of working full-time on the net, I have not as yet achieved my goal of reaching 100,000 subscribers. When I first started, my goal was getting 1,000 subscribers which I quickly passed, then it was 10,000 which was much harder to reach… getting to 100,000 will take much more time and effort but I believe I will get there eventually.

Maybe that number is a bit foolish, mainly because I learned long ago it is not the size of your list that counts, but how responsive it is. Still, it helps to have a goal set for yourself… and a 100k subscriber list is not an unreachable number especially when you’re talking about the Internet. There are probably more than a few pimply faced teenagers out there who have gotten triple that number of subscribers just by placing some silly videos on YouTube.

Many marketers also make the mistake that list building is all about sales and forget that your list is much more than just for monetary gain. It can be the basis for a whole wealth of ideas and interaction that goes well beyond how many sales you can squeeze out of your list. The really savvy marketers use their lists for market research, product development and treat their lists as a knowledge resource they can tap into, time and time again.

Your list building can also be the foundation of your own vibrant online community. A community that’s interactive and a great source of both ideas and business contacts. Probably the best example of this type of community building would be those communities that spring up through the social networking media sites… and Twitter would be a good example of this type of list building.

Invisible List Building

In studying and using lists over the years, some things have really surprised me. As an affiliate marketer I quickly realized most of my list building was invisible! This happened when I was fairly new at the marketing game, I had trouble with one of my site’s web host and I had to move the whole site to a different server and my site was down for several days… but the strange thing was my online sales from this site still kept coming even though my site was down.

I was totally puzzled (I can be rather slow sometimes!) until I realized or rather learnt the marketing power of cookies. Almost all of the affiliate programs I was promoting on my site were using cookies to mark the traffic or clicks coming from my site as my referrals. If anyone of these referrals made a purchase in the next 30, 60, 90 or more days – I would get credit for the sale.

My site was down, but because I had a whole list of cookied buyers lined up to purchase these affiliate products, my sales still kept coming. I was fairly new at this web stuff then and this was a real eye-opener for me. I started joining those affiliate programs that gave me the longest time-frame with their cookies. Most are around 30 days but there are quite a few that will give 365 days. Some affiliate programs such as Ken Evoy’s Site Build It and Marlon Sanders’ products even give you a life-time cookie.

In affiliate marketing using these “cookies” to build up hundreds of lists of “invisible customers” can be a very effective marketing strategy. You might not see these lists, but they’re quietly working for you in the background, bringing in sales even if your site is down or even when you have stopped a particular campaign.

Of course, the key here again, is how targeted is your marketing. You could have a million cookied customers lined up but if they have no real interest in your product – they won’t turn into buying customers. You must get the potential customer who has shown an interest in your product, onto your invisible cookie list. That’s why ranking high in organic search results for your chosen keywords plays a vital role in how much you earn online, especially if you’re into affiliate marketing. Going the PPC (Pay Per Click) route can also work but the profit margins are much closer.

Nor should you ignore building an actual opt-in list of customers to your autoresponder system in this whole process. Many marketers also try to “cookie” their actual opt-in lists as soon as possible in order to boost their sales. Your invisible cookie lists can work in conjunction with your so-called real lists. Along those same lines, one of my most effective marketing strategies is to use “micro” list building which is building hundreds of small lists of customers for each affiliate product that I promote. In the process of building these lists of potential customers, my first goal is to get these customers “cookied” with my affiliate ID. Then no matter if they buy directly from you or from some other link on the web; you still get credit for the sale.

Another effective marketing technique to use with your lists is to promote a whole group of related brand name products and MAKE SURE you cookie your list with ALL these different products so that no matter which one they eventually choose to purchase, you will still get credit for the sale. This way as a marketer you can come across as a helpful neutral third party pointing out the benefits and disadvantages of each product rather than a pushy salesperson pushing one product at your list. Nobody likes a pushy salesperson, so be a helpful friend instead.

Don’t ignore the effectiveness of these cookies or invisible lists in your online marketing. Used properly they can increase your sales dramatically. You can have hundreds of these invisible cookied lists working for you on the web. When you get down to the actual numbers, a list of 100,000 subscribers can pale in comparison. So next time anyone mentions list building to you, just remember you can always go incognito!
