What is the Google Page Rank All About?

Posted on January 16th, 2010 in Google | No Comments »

When talking about search engine optimization, it is almost impossible not to stumble upon the phrase: Google page rank. This term is without doubt very important to webmasters who want to obtain a good ranking and a lot of traffic, but why? Well, by simply understanding how the mathematical formula at the heart of the PageRank (PR) is calculated, any webmaster can influence its website’s Google listing.

Google page rank is one of the methods this search engine has of evaluating the relevance of a web page. The toolbar PR consists of a number between 0-10 which can be easily seen if you have the Google toolbar installed. If you don’t have this toolbar, then visiting quickpagerank.com will allow you to easily check page rank. This website is very easy to use and supplies much more information than the Google toolbar. By simply typing the URL of your site and clicking the “submit” button, you will be able to view your Google page rank, Alexa rank, whether you are listed in Dmoz or not, backlinks showing in major search engines and results coming from AltaVista and the entire web.

PR is short for the Google page rank which is calculated by Google and can range from 0.15 to billions. It represents a “vote” of appreciation or support for a certain website from all the rest existing on the web. It therefore can be zero or a very high number given by the number of links pointing to a site from all the rest. The formula from the original Google paper looks like this: “PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + … + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))” and the symbols represent the following: A – the page for which we want to check page rank, T1…Tn – the pages which are pointing to it through links, C(A) – the number of links coming from page A and pointing to other sites and d – damping factor usually set at 0.85. As you can see the calculus is quite difficult and this is because it doesn’t stop here.

It seems quite impossible to calculate how exactly Google page rank is assigned to a certain page because the PR of a page depends on the PR of all the pages pointing to it. This leads to circle calculations as the PR of those pages pointing to let’s say page “A” also have to be calculated and this is done depending on other sites with their own PR. In addition, Google reevaluates websites periodically re-indexing new links and new pages, all updated and better optimized. Its job is quite difficult, but thank god it’s a machine that’s doing it and not a human!

So, the conclusion is that Google page rank is too difficult to analyze. Entire pages have been written on its algorithms and a lot of intelligent minds have struggled to find out the undisclosed mathematical intricacies of the PR. All we know are the simple facts that Google listings are influenced by links, among which one way links prove to be more efficient. Therefore everyone strives to optimize their websites as much as possible for keyword searches which are performed by Google spiders all the time. After doing their best, webmasters turn to check page rank.

A really interesting aspect related to Google page rank is that Google’s listings don’t always show the sites which have the highest PR in their top findings. This is a puzzling fact. To check page rank has become an undisputable habit for webmaster that do their best to promote their online business and obtain more traffic. Sometimes, their main purpose for optimization is to obtain a high Google page rank, but perhaps this is not the perfect approach for Google’s ranking system. Of course, PR is very important, but since we don’t know for sure how to obtain it, perhaps it would be wiser to do our best to improve website quality and promote them by using only the given facts. So, don’t forget that popularity is the key to success! And, after investing in quality, to best analyze your efforts, you should also constantly check page rank and see how things are going from Google’s point of view.

Don?t forget that quickpagerank.com is a valuable tool for SEO. By simply typing in the desired URL, you can check page rank, backlinks and positioning in major search engines easily. To verify that your optimization has not been in vain, you should not forget about Google page rank!

Known Facts About the Google Page Rank

Posted on January 13th, 2010 in Google | No Comments »

Site owners are on the hunt for the green numbers on the Google page rank toolbar. That’s no secret, but do they all really know what Google page rank is about? How much should you really worry about your online business before you check page rank results? Information is the key to obtaining traffic and becoming the best in a line of business. But not many people pay attention to the numerous articles and websites that offer valuable data on how a site should be made and promoted.

Google page rank represents the basis of Larry Page’s and Sergey Brin’s search engine’s system of calculation. It is only a little part of how it really works and proves that Google’s fame and attention is not random, but obtained due to the quality of its searches. Google is the best search engine currently available and its efficiency is not equaled by any other existing search engine. Webmasters looking to evolve know that the Google page rank is the one who gave it its surplus of query validity and accuracy.

The value of a website on a certain keyword or key phrase (usually typed in by a user) is determined by the way that site is linked to other more or less valuable sites. In turn, those sites are evaluated by Google using the same criteria. In a few words, the whole process resembles a complex web, a combination of variables which are constantly and continuously changing.

When you check page rank, the number you read reflects a current status which might already be changing. Because the Internet consists in so many websites that are updated daily and because so many new pages and links constantly appear, Google needs to make updates as well. These updates can be seen once 2 or 3 months when the “Google dance” takes place and when all new variables have to be taken into consideration. Of course, the process takes place all the time, but only then are we able to see its results through the change of the Google page rank.

If you are interested in how well your site performs when it comes to such an evaluation, you should seriously consider these aspects before you check page rank again: links pointing to your site, the Google page rank of the sites that contain these links, the anchor text of the links and the on-site optimization (meta tags, tags, titles, description, keyword density for site content). As you can probably see, this means there are a lot of aspects involved in page ranking. Many things are controllable and web development companies take care of them in a professional manner. Webmasters are very careful with how they optimize their sites, for example. They carefully observe their Google page rank and constantly seek to raise the number shown by the Google toolbar. Some things are however, uncontrollable. If someone chooses to post a link to your site on his own site which is poorly optimized, his action might have negative effects on yours.

The Google page rank is a very sensitive issue which concerns a lot of webmasters who want their website displayed among the first results Google offers web surfers on certain keywords. Some don’t find it satisfying just to check page rank evolution in time. If for some reasons unknown to them, their Google page rank is modified, even for a short while, PR paranoia can set in. Some optimization methods can even be considered damaging because the PR the webmasters were observing has suddenly changed. The Google page rank is important, but must not be taken that seriously. Google constantly makes changes because the Internet itself is daily enriched with new information. Its spiders crawl up and down the web and their findings can have an effect on your site as well.

Errors can occur, like the very famous “spoofing” effect when a new page can borrow the Google page rank of another better ranked page to which it is connected. But errors can be corrected and so can the result you find when you check page rank. Good PR can turn bad because of a mistake, but it can also turn better just as fast. Your main worry should be to offer valuable information to your targeted public and do so by using the available optimization techniques provided by specialized companies. To regularly check page rank is not a bad practice. It is necessary to keep in touch with how Google sees your site. This is why we recommend using quickpagerank.com, a site that supplies valuable information about ranking in major search engines as well as number of backlinks pointing to your site.

Don?t hesitate to improve your website because this will also affect your Google page rank. Optimization and a close look on the number of links pointing to your site can increase the traffic you receive. Our website provides a wonderful optimization tool which allows you to constantly check page rank evolution and some of the aspects that lead to its boost, like backlinks.

The Most Popular Myth About Internet Marketing

Posted on November 20th, 2009 in Internet Marketing | No Comments »

Back in the 1980s in the health industry, the belief was that eating a high carbohydrates, low protein, and low fat diet was the healthiest way to go. Most carbohydrates were considered good. And ALL fats are bad.

Unfortunately when the carbohydrate rage was going on, we see an increase in obese people and diabetes. Not too healthy is it? Now, a balanced diet and eating healthy fish fats is accepted as the healthiest way to go. The carbohydrate myth is now debunked. (That is the fact as I see it, anyway)

The same thing goes on with internet marketing and today Im going to help you debunk 3 common myths about internet marketing:

Myth #1
Internet Marketing takes no effort to build!
This is probably the most popular myth about internet marketing. Although internet marketing is in fact the lazy persons way to wealth (legally and morally), the truth is that you still have to put out work in the front end before any real money is made in the backend.

Once you put enough work in the front end to develop a solid internet marketing foundation, you can then relax on the beach while the residual comes pouring in all without lifting a finger!

Myth #2
All you need is a great website with all the best graphics and animations!
You cant just put up a website, tell your brother and sister about it, sit at home and watch TV all day and expect to have the cash magically appear in your bank account. For more information logon to www.split-test-profits.com.You will still have to distribute, develop and market your product or service to people before anything significant will happen.

Many people spend tens of thousands of dollars having their websites developed without even thinking about the market they are selling their product and service to. They have all the flashy and colorful images and cute animations to impress visitors. Unfortunately, without a market, the only person that will look at their website and be impressed with it is themselves.

Its like setting up your own professional practice or retail store and only telling your friends and family. No advertising and no marketing. Unless you have a HUGE family and have thousands of friends to support you, youll be out of business in within months!

Myth #3
The BIG money in Internet Marketing is all hype and bullshi*!
People who believe in this garbage probably believe that the only way to make money is to go to school and earn wages at their cubicle. Although these people are half right, they get what they believe, all of the hype and bullshi*, and none of the BIG money.

When an internet marketing guru promises that his program will make you a millionaire in a month, he is a fraud and thats why internet marketing is sometimes viewed by some people as scams.

But dont take financial lessons from wage earners, its like taking hockey lessons from Michael Jordan; you are learning from people who dont know what theyre doing on those subjects. In our case, broke wage earners giving us their opinions about internet marketing!

If I told you how much a successful internet marketer makes, you wouldnt believe me. Do your investigation and interview some top internet marketers. For more details visit towww. spam-learners-pro.com.Find out his lifestyle and if its a lot better than yours, youd better listen up

In conclusion, remember that an internet marketing business (like any business) requires effort and a marketing strategy in order for you to make the big bucks. Throw out all the myths that are now debunked and embrace the realities of internet marketing.

The Truth About Facebook

Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Social Media Marketing | No Comments »

There are lots of social networking websites that you can participate in today like MySpace and Bebo, and they all have their pluses and minuses. The best way to choose a community to participate in is to evaluate the people who have already joined. To me, Facebook is certainly one of the best internet meeting places for networking, both socially and professionally. I also use Linked In and Myspace. Of all the social networks, Facebook is the best place when it comes to all around marketing and networking.

I have been using Facebook for the past two years, and it is a first-class tool for marketing to add to your marketing arsenal. Here are 10 tips to use on Facebook to introduce new people to your business for FREE!

1. Make an Attractive Profile: This is absolutely the FIRST thing that you must do to get noticed on Facebook . Think of your Facebook profile as part of your branding. A powerful profile will include a professional picture of you. Don’t use the one of you dressed as Santa Claus, unless that’s what your selling. Make sure your new Facebook profile is complete. Your profile should include your contact information, your website address (this is really important), education, work experience and your personal interests. A complete profile is the only way to go.

2. Add Friends: This is what sets Facebook apart – the ability meet new people, build relationships and sustain them. The more relationships you develop, the more satisfying your marketing efforts will be. You can use Facebook’s own tools to search for friends that already belong to Facebook. Once you add your friends, you can search for kindred spirits. Make their acquaintance, become their friend, build a relationship. One great thing on Facebook is that you can see friends of your friends. This will help you build a extensive network in no time.

3. Join Facebook Groups: You can join groups within Facebook that are similar to what you do. There are groups for consultants, councilors, and instructors. Almost every conceivable type of professional service provider has some kind of group on Facebook. I belong to several Facebook groups and have made hundreds of new contacts this way.

4. Create your Own Group: Can’t find a group that really fits your style? Create your own! You can add members, publish articles, begin some great discussions, and probably start quite a few important new relationships. And even if you find great group to belong to, start your own. This gives you the platform to be the trendsetter!

5. Syndicate your Blog Using RSS: You can syndicate your own blog on your Facebook profile page. This in essence means that every time you make a post, it will automatically show up on your profile page. More Exposure leads to More Readers leads to More Leads creates More Business. And the bonus is the back links to your site. I syndicate headlines from my 3 blogs on Facebook.

6. Comment on Other Peoples Profiles: Are you a follower or devotee of someone’s work? Reach out to them on Facebook! Many of my friends check their Facebook messages more constantly than their email. They are also more likely to respond to Facebook messages. Don’t feel quite right sending out a message to someone you don’t know? Don’t worry! Leave them a “just saying hi!” or “I love your work!” message on their wall. All profiles come with “virtual walls” where business associates can leave a comment. The more comments you leave on your friend’s profiles the more exposure you get!

7. List your Events: Speaking somewhere or Hosting a Teleseminar? Add an events page and invite everyone you know. You can even see who RSVPed and get feedback from your attendees. Marketing doesn’t get any simpler (or more inexpensive!) than this.

8. Send Virtual Gifts: Want to show your appreciation for someone? Send them a virtual gift. You can choose from a teddy bear to an egg that hatches a surprise gift over 4 days (plus tons of others). With all the Facebook applications for gift giving available, what are you waiting for. This is a clever way to build and nurture new relationships!

9. Use Some Cool Apps: Facebook has literally dozens of applications that were built just for the site. Quizzes, games, challenges and more. When you use an application, you get to invite your friends to use these cool mini applications (Apps). So just like number 8 above, this allows you another way to stay connected to your friends on Facebook. Again, this helps you maintain and nurture new relationships.

10. Create a Community: Perhaps Facebook’s greatest benefit is that it allows you to build a community. It provides you a group of people who are perpetually connected to you, and these friends are open to hearing what you have to say. Write on people’s walls, have conversation, and introduce them to each other. Start building your brand and leveraging Facebook for business building!

Facebook is a fantastic place to introduce yourself to lots of new people who may also become customers and/or clients. Just keep one thing in mind: don’t get too carried away and spend all your time there. Facebook is a tool, part of your online marketing plan. Use the tips above, use them wisely and have a little fun at the same time.

What You Dont Know About Affiliate Marketing

Posted on November 6th, 2009 in Affiliate Marketing | No Comments »

Affiliate programs are also known as associate programs, partner programs, reseller programs and sponsor programs.

In a general sense, these programs allow you to use any online advertising medium to share revenue with an affiliate merchant website, by receiving a portion of their income for delivering customers who result in sales, leads or traffic to the affiliate merchant website.

The popularity of affiliate marketing is very well realized now than earlier. This is prominent among the reasons for the high visibility of affiliate marketing programs among the ever growing number of affiliate marketers on a daily basis.

Latest web technology has enabled the affiliate marketers to get their statistics and income figures the moment they make an affiliate sale. It is now possible to use companies like PayPal for payment and receipt processing. This has highly curtailed the time that an affiliate marketer needs to wait for his payments to be collected from the merchants.

Today, both the merchants and the affiliates can see clearly that affiliate marketing can work for both of them. The merchant sees affiliate marketing today as the chance to advertise their products at a lower cost. The affiliates, on the other hand, sees affiliate marketing as an easy way of earning profits online by doing what they like most, and that is by creating websites.

Just as the reputation of affiliate marketing has gone up, similarly the attitude of people has enhanced with respect to affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is no more regarded as an inferior method of marketing by the merchants or as a secondary source of income by an affiliate marketer. Both merchants and affiliates regard affiliate marketing as a main source of profits and revenues.

So the question now is what type of affiliate marketing will work best for you? Are all affiliate marketing programs the same? Are the benefits the same? Or are there affiliate marketing programs that work better than the others?

There are actually a large variety of affiliate marketing methods, and the types will depend on how they are going to be classified. The macro level classification of affiliate marketing programs falls under three main categories: pay-per-click (PPC), pay-per-play (PPP) and pay-per-performance (PPP).

TYPES OF AFFILIATE MARKETING

1. PPC – Pay-Per-Click is a highly promoted and used affiliate marketing method by affiliates with websites or small websites. This is also the easiest way for them to start making money. Under this method of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid a commission by the merchant when a visitor visits the merchant’s site through the affiliate’s reference, that is, whenever a visitor clicks and goes to the merchant’s site through the banner or text ads that the affiliate has put up.

A website owner would be given a simple code (html codes) to paste onto any webpage where the website owner wants a visitor to see the advertisements. The ads will be related to the webpage content. Pay per click is free to join but they have very strict policies especially against fraudulent clicks by owners of websites on which the advertisements are displayed.

2. PPP- Pay Per Play:  Pay per Play (PPP) is the latest wave in internet advertising. When a person visits a webpage which hosts these ads, they will hear a single 5 second professional audio advertisement. The advertisement will be relevant to the content of the webpage.

How does this work? It works much like current Pay per Click programs, minus one critical element – there will be no click required by the visitors! 100% of visitors to the webpage will generate revenue for the webpage owner. That’s the Pay Per Play Advantage! Advertisers will bid to have their ad placed on a particular website. The winner’s ad will play when a visitor opens that webpage. In turn, the website owner will get paid for every visitor to his website. The more pages the website owner has with these ads, and the more traffic he has, the more income he will generate.

3. Pay-Per-Performance (PPP) – PPP affiliate marketing is the most popular among merchant and is also the most lucrative type for the affiliates. In this type of affiliate program, the merchant only pays the affiliate whenever his referral translates into an action – that is whenever the visitor he has referred actually buys something from the merchant’s site or when the visitor becomes a lead.

A further classification of Pay-per-performance affiliate marketing can be done into two types: pay-per-sales (PPS) and pay-per-lead (PPL). Both these are very popular:

a) Pay-Per-Sale (PPS) – In a pay-per-sale type of affiliate marketing, the affiliates get the commission from the merchants whenever the visitor he has referred to the merchant’s site actually buys something from the merchant’s site.

 b) Pay-Per-Lead (PPL) – The pay-per-lead type of affiliate marketing is a slight variation of the PPS type and is often used by insurance and finance companies and other companies who rely on leads for their company to grow. In this type of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid whenever the visitor he referred to the merchant’s site fills up an application form or any similar form related to the business of the company.
